Australian employment data looms

A swathe of data is scheduled for publication today, where attention turns local for the release of jobs-related data.

The EURUSD made some more gains overnight as it creeps towards $1.11. The pair opened at $1.10323 and traded rather flat in early trading. Mid-session trading saw the euro dip to lows of $1.10215 before it rebounded and climbed to highs of $1.10853 late in the day. It has come off those highs slightly and is currently trading at $1.10758. The GBPUSD followed a similar path to the euro after opening at $1.27790. The pound remained steady early before falling to lows of $1.26551 mid-session. It surged off those lows, adding almost one and a half cents as it peaked at $1.28778 late in the day. It has come away from those highs and is now trading at $1.28234.

The Dow traded in a tight range for most of the day as it took a breather from the rally that took place in the previous session. The index started the day at 27,049.95 and began a slow slide in early trading, continuing its fall until it bottomed-out at 26,944.03 mid-session. It bounced off those lows and a few hours later it reached a high of 27,070.86. The Dow fell back below 27,000 late in the day and is currently trading at 26,960.15. The Dax made some small gains overnight after opening the day at 12,632.51. The German index edged down to 12,597.04 early, then began a gradual rise for most of the day. It peaked at 12,700.07 late in the day before closing at 12,662.58.

The day ahead sees the release of some important data, with Australia coming under the spotlight. Australia will be publishing Employment Change and Unemployment Rate figures. Australia is expected to add another 15,300 jobs over the last month, while the Unemployment rate is forecast to remain steady at 5.3%.
