Markets eye US data

June 25, 2019

A relatively quiet day ahead for markets but there is still some important data scheduled for release.

The EURUSD continues to gain in value, albeit at a slower pace overnight. The pair began the week at $1.13687 and dipped to an opening-hour low of $1.13641. The euro’s gradual push up saw it enter $1.14 territory, peaking at $1.14031. It is not far off that high, currently trading at $1.13986. The GBPUSD opened and closed flat and only showed small movements throughout the day. The pair opened at $1.27318 and climbed to a high of $1.27654 mid-session. It came off those highs and a few hours later, the pound was sitting at lows of $1.27070. The pound regained some of those losses and is currently trading at $1.27378.

The Dow was pretty much a non-event overnight, trading in a tight range to start the week. The index started the week at 26,740.43 and fell to early lows of 26,668.40. The Dow bounced off those lows and maintained a level near its open for majority of the day, peaking at 26,823.14 late in the day. It is currently trading at 26,775.33. The Dax followed up its underwhelming performance on Friday with another negative session overnight. The German index began the day at 12,280.75 and shot up to an early high of 12,334.93. From there however, it headed in reverse, as it hit a low of 12,235.37 in the final hour of trade before closing at 12,242.48.

The day ahead appears to be a quiet one as there isn’t a huge volume in data, but attention turns to the US and the release of some important economic data. Later in the night, the US will be publishing CB Consumer Confidence data. The index is expected to post a figure of 132, down slightly from 134.1 at last reading.
