Critical UK data released tonight

May 25, 2017

A somewhat quiet night for markets, as far as the number of announcements go, but there is still some crucial data set for release.

Later tonight, the UK will be publishing a few pieces of data, one of which is a vital indicator to the health of the economy. Data set for release by the UK includes: Second Estimate GDP, Prelim Business Investment, BBA Mortgage Approvals and Index of Services. The GDP figure is where markets will focus their interest as it denotes growth in the UK economy. These numbers become even more critical as uncertainty continues to surround Brexit negotiations. This can also have political implications considering the UK is holding an election early next month.

There are also several figures set for publication elsewhere around the world. This includes:

Canada – Corporate Profits

US – Unemployment Claims, Goods Trade Balance, Prelim Wholesale Inventories and Natural Gas Storage. Fed Reserve Member, Lael Brainard, speaks.

Finally, OPEC meetings are being held and Switzerland, Germany and France all have bank holidays.
