Europe the focus for markets, Draghi speaks

April 6, 2017

A relatively quiet Thursday as far as announcements are concerned, with most of the data emanating from Europe.

Among the data released from Europe includes: German Factory Orders, Swiss CPI and European Retail PMI. As Europe’s largest economy, the German Factory Orders would be considered the most important info to come out of Europe. Manufacturing is a crucial sector of the German economy, and by extension, the European economy. The figure represents the change in total value of new purchase orders placed with manufacturing companies. As Europe relies on a strong German economy, it is crucial that growth continues, with manufacturing (particularly that of the auto industry) playing a major role in that growth. Meanwhile, the ECB will be releasing the minutes from its last monetary policy meeting. ECB President, Mario Draghi, is due to speak.

Releases from elsewhere around the world:

Japan – Consumer Confidence

UK – Housing Equity Withdrawal

Canada – Building Permits

US – Unemployment Claims, Challenger Job Cuts & Natural Gas Storage
