Europe the main focus for today as Italian Referendum results and Eurogroup meetings accompany several announcements

December 5, 2016

The main focus for markets today is Europe, where the results of Italian Referendum are expected to be announced within a matter of hours. Also of importance are the Eurogroup Meetings. These meetings are attended by Finance Ministers from Euro area member states. This is of importance as they will be discussing the latest bailout package for Greece.

On the announcement front, Europe has got quite a lot of information coming out later tonight. This list of announcements includes: Spanish & Italian Services PMI’s, German/French/European Final Services PMI’s, Sentix Investor Confidence, and Retail Sales. The PMI figures are important as they give an indication of the strength and growth of the services sectors in individual Euro countries as well as generally for Europe. The investor confidence index is just that. It’s an index reflecting the confidence of investors within the Euro area. Retail Sales figures reflect the health of the retail sector within Europe.

Elsewhere, the US is releasing Final Services PMI, ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI and Labour Market Conditions Index, while FOMC Members William Dudley & James Bullard are set to speak. The UK is releasing Services PMI data, China is releasing Caixin Services PMI, Japan is releasing Consumer Confidence data and finally, Australia is releasing Company Operating Profits and ANZ Job Advertisements figures.
