Packed week ahead for markets

Plenty of data set for release in what shapes up to be a busy week.

The EURUSD opened Friday at $1.14272 and nudged up to a high of $1.14296 during the first hour of the day. A steady decline started from that point before it plateaued mid-session. A further drop late in the day saw the pair hit lows of $1.13282. It has come off those lows and is now trading at $1.13495. The GBPUSD began Friday at $1.35506 and slid to lows of $1.35128 heading into mid-session trading. From there, the pound rallied to a high of $1.36085 before falling away late in the day. It is now trading at $1.35489.

The Dow ended Friday lower after starting the day at 35,237.47. It traded in a tight range for the first half of the day before climbing to a high of 35,440.78. Falling from those highs, the Dow hit a low of 34,616.25 shortly before the close. It is now trading at 34,773.90. The Dax travelled a similar path to the Dow when it opened at 15,353.94. After a steady opening few hours, the German index climbed its way to a high of 15,521.66 mid-session. Those highs were not held for long as the Dax tumbled to lows of 15,127.62 late. It is currently trading at 15,193.05.

The week ahead sees a plethora of information being released, with the Retail & Core Retail Sales data from the US the pick of the bunch.

Wednesday – US PPI, UK CPI
Thursday – US Retail Sales, Core Retail Sales, Industrial Production, FOMC Meeting Minutes and Crude Oil Reserves, Australian Employment Change and Unemployment Rate, Canadian CPI
Friday – US Unemployment Claims, Existing Home Sales and Housing Starts, UK Retail Sales, FOMC Members James Bullard, Christopher Waller, Loretta Mester, John Williams and Lael Brainard speak
