Markets continue strong start to the week

It has been a positive start to the week, with indices rallying again overnight.

Major currencies made further gains as the USD weakened again. The EURUSD began the day at $1.14431 and slipped to a low of $1.14220 early in the session. It remained flat over the next several hours before rallying to a late high of $1.15932. It is not far off those highs, currently trading at $1.15346. The GBPUSD opened at $1.26496 and edged down to a low of $1.26482 early. It climbed off those lows, hitting a high of $1.27674 late in the day. It has come away from those highs and is currently trading at $1.27256.

Stocks were mixed overnight, with the Dow flying high and the Dax faltering. The flagship US index opened at 26,733.51 and dipped to a low of 26,699.36 in the opening hour of trade. After a slow start, the Dow rallied mid-session, eventually peaking at a high 27,028.34. It has come off those highs and is now trading at 26,923.00. The Dax began Tuesday at 13,090.90 and rallied over the first half of the day, peaking at 13,315.18 mid-session. It gave up those gains over the back half of the day, hitting a low of 13,071.05 in the final hour of trade. It has come off those lows and is now trading at 13,135.85.
