US data looms

A jam-packed day ahead with a stack of significant data set for release from around the world.

The EURUSD was steady for most of the session after opening at $1.13941. The pair dipped to lows of $1.13891 in the opening hour of the day. Mid-session trading saw the euro climb to highs of $1.14516 before declining late. It is currently trading at $1.14162. The GBPUSD began the day at $1.25525 and slipped to lows of $1.25462 in the first hour of trade. It climbed off those lows, eventually peaking at $1.26490 heading into late-session trading. It gave up some of those gains late in the day and is now trading at $1.25783.

The Dow ultimately closed flat yesterday, consolidating its position after the large rally it endured the day before. The index started the day at 26,797.77 and was steady in the first half of the day before lifting to a high of 27,177.90 heading into late trading. Those gains were given up as the Dow fell to lows of 26,682.58.  It has come off those lows and is now trading at 26,831.50. The Dax opened at 12,868.70 and slid to lows of 12,765.87 early. It bounced off those lows, hitting highs of 12,998.15 late in the day. It has come away from those highs and is now trading at 12,872.40.

The day ahead shapes up as a hectic one as a swathe of data is scheduled for publication. Markets will be keenly awaiting the Retail & Core Retail Sales figures released later tonight. Retail & Core Retail Sales are tipped to expand by 5%, down from 17.7% and 12.4% respectively.

US – Unemployment Claims, Philly Fed Manufacturing Index, Business Inventories, Natural Gas Storage, NAHB Housing Market Index, TIC Long-Term Purchases, FOMC Member John Williams speaks
