Brexit can gets kicked down the road – again

October 22, 2019

The farcical Brexit mess continues, with the latest roadblock being thrown up by the House of Commons speaker.

The EURUSD traded in a tight range for most of the day after starting the week at $1.11600. The euro was steady early before climbing to a high of $1.11789 mid-session. It fell off those highs shortly afterwards as it hit lows of $1.11379 in late trading. It has come off those lows and is now trading at $1.11491. The GBPUSD made some modest gains overnight after opening the week at $1.29446. The pair dropped to lows of $1.28729 early in the day and remained near those lows for the next few hours. Mid-session trading saw the pound rally to a high of $1.30127 before falling away in late trading. It is currently trading at $1.29634.

The Dow opened the week rather flat, steadying itself after the sell-off that occurred last Friday. The index began the week at 26,775.02 and climbed in early trading, eventually peaking at 26,889.49 mid-session. It remained steady over the next few hours, before dipping to lows of 26,756.81 late in the day. It has bounced off those lows and is now trading at 26,837.34. The Dax began the week strongly, after opening at 12,666.49. The German index dipped to a low of 12,644.63 early in the day before taking off mid-session. The Dax hit a high of 12,786.34 late in the day before closing at 12,755.66.

The Brexit circus rolls on as the House speaker steps in and throws up another delay in the process. His claim is that as the Brexit deal was discussed on Saturday, they will not be voting on the exact same deal that was set to be voted on overnight, kicking the can down the road once more. Whether they will get another chance to vote soon remains to be seen.
