A deluge of data rounds out the week

A smorgasbord of data today could bring some market volatility as we head into the weekend.

The EURUSD looked set for a strong session with the pair breaking through the $1.14 barrier at one stage. The euro opened at $1.13680 and remained flat in early trading. Mid-session trading saw the euro rally to a high of $1.14189 before falling just as quick, hitting lows of $1.13586 just a few hours later. It has come off those lows and is currently trading at $1.13691. The GBPUSD remained largely flat but still weakened overnight. The pair opened at $1.33048 and bumped up to a high of $1.33189 a short time later. A slow a gradual decline set in for the rest of the session, with the pound falling to lows $1.32523 late in the day. It is currently trading at $1.32632.

The Dow weakened overnight, despite a better-than-expected GDP result. The index opened at 26,016.69 and fell throughout early trading, bottoming out at 25,879.52. The Dow bounced off that low in mid-session trading, rallying to a high of 26,029.45. It gave up those high quickly however, falling during late-day trading. It is currently at 25,914.72. The Dax bucked the trend after opening the day at 11,453.24. The German index fell sharply to an opening-hour low of 11,397.46. The Dax then turned it around, surging to a high of 11,538.79, which was reached late in the session. The Dax closed at 11,513.58.

The day ahead sees the release of a stack of data as we round out the week. Data released today includes:

China – Caixin Manufacturing PMI

Canada – GDP, Manufacturing PMI

Australia – HIA New Home Sales, Commodity Prices

Japan – Final Manufacturing PMI, Consumer Confidence

UK – Manufacturing PMI, Net Lending to Individuals, M4 Money Supply, Mortgage Approvals

US – Core PCE Price Index, Personal Spending, Personal Income, Final manufacturing PMI, ISM Manufacturing PMI & Manufacturing Prices, Total Vehicle Sales, UoM Consumer Sentiment & Inflation Expectations

Europe – European Unemployment rate, European CPI & Core CPI Flash Estimate, Italian Monthly Unemployment Rate, German Unemployment Change, German & Swiss Retail Sales, French Government Budget Balance, European, German and French Final Manufacturing PMIs, Italian, Spanish and Swiss Manufacturing PMIs
