Dow still on shaky ground

March 15, 2018

Plenty of announcements set for release today as we head into the back end of another week that has had its fair share of volatility.

The Dow was hammered once again as it struggles to shake off the market correction that occurred over a month ago now. Just when it seems to be recovering, it suffers another setback. The Dow began the session reasonably flat, then it spiked midway through session. It put on around 150 points as it looked to consolidate as it hit highs of 25146.44. The declined started soon after the release of retail sales data, which was underwhelming. From that point on, it proceeded to tumble around 500 points as it hit lows of 24,654.01. It has recovered from those lows, currently trading at 24,784.70. The Dax remained resilient once again, climbing around 160 points as it hit highs of 12,324.00. It reached session lows of 12,166.25 from the open. It has pulled back from its high, once again being dragged down by the Dow. It is currently trading at 12,254.25.

The EUR/USD started the session in strong fashion, climbing to a high of $1.24124 early in the day. It gave up all those gains to fall to session lows of $1.23461. It has bounced off those lows to be currently trading at $1.23646. The GBP/USD was a bit of a roller coaster, ebbing and flowing along the way, but basically ending the session close to where it started it. The pair peaked early in the day, hitting $1.39957. it weakened and strengthened for the next few hours as it eventually hit lows of $1.39240. It has recovered most of those losses, now sitting at $1.39629.
