UK data in focus

October 10, 2017

Plenty of data from around the world set for release, with the main focus on UK Manufacturing Production figures.

Currencies remained reasonably stable overnight as a quiet night of announcements and events around the world meant there was little to shift currencies in any meaningful way. The EUR/USD continued to trade in the mid $1.17 region, currently at $1.1739. The GBP/USD also remained quite stable, where it is currently trading at $1.3137.

US stocks all edged lower overnight as there was little to inspire markets to move higher. The Dow was the best of the bad bunch, shaving 12.60 points (-0.06%) to close at 22,761.07. The NASDAQ ended the session down 10.45 points (-0.16%) to 6,579.73, while the S&P 500 dipped lower, down 4.60 points (-0.18%) to end at 2,544.73. European stocks were a mixed bag once again, the DAX up 20.46 points (0.16%) to close at 12,976.40, while the FTSE ended the session at 7,507.89, down 14.98 points (-0.20%).

Gold has shown signs of life after being friendless last week, jumping around $15.00 to $1,285.80. Oil is also showing some movements, losing more than $3 last week. It has somewhat stabilised to its current level of $49.55.

Turning to the day ahead and the most important data to be released today is the UK Manufacturing Production data.
