Jackson Hole Symposium this week

A quiet start to the week allows us to look at the week ahead.

The most significant event is the Jackson Hole Symposium in the US. This is an economic symposium is a three-day event attended by central bank figures from around the world, including Fed Chair Janet Yellen and ECB President Mario Draghi. As it closed off to the media, markets rely on the limited interviews that these central bank figures give to get an indication on where the global economy is heading and what threats could derail economic recovery. This meeting has the potential to move markets due to the calibre of people speaking at the event.

Tuesday – UK Public Sector Net Borrowing, German ZEW Economic Sentiment

Wednesday – US, Japanese, European, German and French Flash Manufacturing PMI’s, US, European, German and French Services PMI’s. ECB President Mario Draghi and Fed Reserve Member Robert Kaplan, are due to speak.

Thursday – US New Home Sales and Unemployment Claims, UK Second Estimate GDP.

Friday & Weekend – US Existing Home Sales, Mortgage Delinquencies, Durable & Core Durable Goods Orders. Three-day Jackson Hole Symposium starts.
