Europe leads announcements, Mario Draghi speaks

May 10, 2017

A reasonably quiet night for markets as far as announcements go, with most of the activity coming out of Europe.

Later tonight, ECB President, Mario Draghi, will be in the Netherlands. Draghi’s speeches are normally important, but this will be particularly intriguing as it’s the first major speech from the ECB following the French election. The French election was vital to the future of Europe and the ECB as the other French candidate, Marine Le Pen, wanted France to leave the EU. It will be interesting if Draghi mentions anything about the new French administration and it views on Europe. Draghi may also give some insights into the European economy and where the ECB sees monetary policy in the future. As for announcements, there are few. These include: French Industrial Production & Trade Balance and Italian Industrial Production.

Elsewhere around the world, data set for release includes: Leading Indicators from Japan and Import Prices, Crude Oil Inventories & Federal Budget Balance from the US.
