Speakers dominate interest for markets as US leads announcements

April 20, 2017

A busy night for markets as a couple of important speakers take centre stage, while the US is releasing the most important data for the night.

In the early hours of tomorrow, BoE Governor Mark Carney, is due to speak. As the Brexit negotiations begin, it is crucial for the central bank to keep an eye on talks between the UK and EU. This is because Brexit deals will have a direct impact on the economy and the BoE must be ready to act accordingly. Now that Theresa May has been given the green light to hold a snap election on June 8, it may well be prudent for traders to look at the economic policies the PM is trying to push for in those negotiations.

Also due to speak in the early hours of tomorrow morning is US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin. As Treasury Secretary, what he says has wide ranging implications for the US economy. Given the uncertain times around the world at the moment, it will be important to hear what he has to say to reassure consumers, businesses and markets.

As far as announcements go, the US is releasing the most important data, while there is also data set for release from Europe.

The data from the US includes: Philly Fed Manufacturing Index, Unemployment Claims, CB Leading Index & Natural Gas Storage. The data set for publication from Europe includes: German PPI and European Consumer Confidence.
