US Debate likely to add to market volatility

October 10, 2016

The US Presidential race is heating up as we draw closer to Election Day in early November. Bank Holidays in Japan, Canada and US have meant that announcements are relatively thin on the ground, therefore directing even more focus on today’s Presidential Debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Although it is widely seen that Hillary will win on Election Day, as they say, a week is a long time in politics. We’re still around a month out, so a lot can still happen. This has a huge bearing on the markets, as any significant shift in poll support (particularly in favour of the outsider, Trump), will cause the markets to react with increased volatility. This volatility will only intensify as we get closer to the election.
